Gillen honored by U.S. Embassy to the Holy See; Invisible Chains screened internationally

Michele Gillen was one of two journalists selected worldwide to speak at the International Trafficking Conference ("A Call to Action: Joining the Fight Against Trafficking in Persons") in Rome, Italy on June 17. It was also the first international screening of WFOR’s investigative series, Invisible Chains.

At the conference, the American Ambassador to the Holy See, Jim Nicholson, presented Michele with a unique, gold and silver inlaid medallion on behalf of President George W. Bush for her work in exposing human trafficking in the United States.

Gillen's investigative series, "Headed For Danger," a hot topic at NIAF's 28th Anniversary Convention & Gala

The NIAF Washington Gala is the major annual event benefitting NIAF's education and scholarship program. The 2003 gala honorees include actor/director Roberto Benigni. As a result of Gillen's "Headed For Danger," NIAF sponsored the first international medical summit in Avellino, Italy.

The Prix Italia is the oldest and most prestigious international radio, television and web competition. It awards prizes for quality productions in the fields of drama (single plays and serials), documentaries (culture and current affairs), the performing arts (television) and music (radio).

Prix Italia 2003 holds first international screening of "Headed For Danger"

Prix Italia officials held the first international screening of “Headed For Danger” on the second day of the conference, which was devoted to identifying and exploring issues of disabilities. Officials say Gillen’s series, which investigates potential links between Italian soccer players and the devastating Lou Gehrig’s disease, has sparked international interest and reaction.
